Is it too late?

I had you all to myself then, I didn’t realise how utopian life was,
Amidst the crowd your smile stood out, never my mind did it cross.
When you moved on to someone else, I didn’t feel so good,
Regret set in, but too late it was, for this I had understood.

That I wouldn’t be so happy anywhere else,
And it wasn’t reversible, unlike those fairy tales.
I would need an advanced time machine,
To make you stay and get my conscience clean.

I’m not asking for a second chance,
For I know you’re happier in one glance,
There’s nothing that can be done now,
Except turning back the clock, I don’t know how.

Life without your love is a walk in a dry wasteland,
We did have problems, but there were solutions, I understand.
Saying I want you back is as useless as useless can be,
But it’s only natural to feel this way, as you, I can no longer see
